About FDM Printing

FDM Printing is a 3D printing method utilizing melted plastic filaments to create 3D parts and models. Final products can be made in a variety of strengths and colors. FDM Printing is recommended for models which are not intended to bear excessive weight or stress, or for working tools and parts when using ABS or Nylon filament. Depending on the filament used and print quality, FDM prints tend to have varying degrees of layer lines in the finished product.

Color Options

Plastic filament comes in a variety of solid colors and color gradients. We also offer multicolor prints with up to four filaments per print.

Filament Strength

Varying strength plastics are available, including PETG and PLA for standard models, ABS and Nylon for strong parts, and TPU for flexible prints

Specialty Materials

Various specialty filaments are availble, including rainbow, glow in the dark, and filaments imbued with wood, marble or carbon fiber.

Print Size

Our printer can print models up to 8.6″ x 8.6″ x 9.25″

What is the difference between FDM and Resin 3D Printing?

Fdm printing is a method of printing utilizing plastic filament heated to very high temperatures. A wide range of plastics of varying strengths and flexibility can be used, making it a suitable solution for both models and functional parts alike.

Resin printing is a method of printing utilizing UV-light sensitive resins cured by high power LED lights. As a resin printer is not limited by nozzle size, and full layers are cured at once and can be very thin, resin prints can be much more detailed that FDM prints with less noticeable layer lines. Resin strengths are limited however, and may not be a suitable for models meant to withstand weight or pressure.
What type of filament should I choose?

A variety of filaments are available in an array of colors, patterns, strength and flexibility. For general models for display and light-duty use cases, PLA is a good multi-use filament. For applications requiring more strength, filaments such as ABS and Nylon are recommended. If you require that your model be flexible or soft, TPU is a great choice.

Many materials are available in a range of color and translucency. Specialty filament is also available, such as wood-fill PLA and carbon-fill PLA.
