About Resin Printing

Resin printing is a method of 3D printing utilizing photosensitive UV resins resins cured by a UV lamp to create highly detailed models. Compared to traditional FDM printing, model retain higher dimensional accuracy and can contain smaller details. Resin prints also display less noticeable layer lines than FDM prints. Due to their sensitivity to UV light, resin printing is not recommended for models intended to be exposed to direct sunlight.

Resin Strength

Though resin is not typically recommended for weight or load bearing models, ABS-like resin is available for prints requiring extra strength.

What is the difference between FDM and Resin 3D Printing?

Resin printing is a method of printing utilizing UV-light sensitive resins cured by high power LED lights. As a resin printer is not limited by nozzle size, and full layers are cured at once and can be very thin, resin prints can be much more detailed that FDM prints with less noticeable layer lines. Resin strengths are limited however, and may not be a suitable for models meant to withstand weight or pressure.
What type of resin should I choose?

Several resin options are available depending on your needs. If you require added strength for your model, we recommend ABS-like resin. Please keep in mind that resin prints can only be made in a single color, so if you plan to paint your model you may want to select a neutral color, or the color that will be most prevalent in the final design. Additionally, if your model will be often exposed to natural light, it is suggested that you choose an opaque or semi-opaque resin, as clear resins may discolor when exposed to sunlight.
